The Chicago Bears made several moves to improve their offensive attack in the 2025 NFL Draft, and there was, at least, one more big swing they attempted to make.

One of the hallmarks of Ben Johnson's elite offense during his time with the Detroit Lions was their two-headed attack at running back with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. With those great rushers opening things up for the vertical passing game, Johnson wanted to employ a similar strategy around second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.

To do so, Chicago made an offer to the New England Patriots to move up in the second round, reportedly, to target former Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson. As you can see from the video clip below, the Bears offered the Patriots the No. 39 overall pick and a selection in the seventh round to move up one slot and, reportedly, take Henderson to add him to Chicago's backfield alongside D'Andre Swift.

The Patriots ultimately passed on that trade offer and another proposal from an unidentified team to bring Henderson into the fold. The Bears, as we all know, went on to take former Missouri Tigers standout wide receiver Luther Burden III with the No. 39 overall pick and did not address the running back position until the seventh round when they selected Kyle Monangai out of Rutgers University.

Henderson would have provided Chicago another home run threat out of the backfield. It takes two to tango, though, and the new brain trust calling the shots in New England was unwilling to work with them on a deal.

There are still plenty of options on the open market should Johnson and Bears GM Ryan Poles decide that bringing in another veteran is the best course of action. With OTAs and training camp on the horizon, those final roster decisions should become clearer in the coming weeks.
