Bears Coordinator Needs to Be Fired After Week 12 Disaster
By Joe Summers
The Bears suffered another major loss in Week 12, this time falling short to the Vikings despite showing excellent promise early in the contest.
Unfortunately, special teams coordinator Richard Hightower's unit embarrassed itself once again. This has been a common theme for Hightower's group, who has failed to meet expectations during the entire year.
Former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron drew fans' ire, but Hightower has proven he shouldn't remain with the staff moving forward.
Bears Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower Fails Yet Again
Hightower's special teams group hasn't fared well this year. Unfortunately, they might've cost Chicago a win against the Minnesota Vikings. Somehow, this unit allowed another blocked field goal on Sunday, in addition to poor punt coverage that resulted in a kick that should've went much further.
Caleb Williams was spectacular, passing for over 300 yards while D.J. Moore scored a TD, yet the unspoken third unit couldn't back up their teammates. Head coach Matt Eberflus has looked incapable of rallying his team for most of the season and Week 12 was no different.
Unless there's significant changes on the coaching staff, the Bears will continue to be outclassed by superior coaches. Hightower has had bright moments yet his dark ones far outweigh the positives.
In a tied game, these moments matter. Chicago's front office, which has its own significant issues, hasn't seen enough to continue employing Hightower, so he should follow Waldron straight out of the door.
For now, the Bears have an opportunity to turn a disastrous season into a promising one. Hightower shouldn't be part of the rebuilding effort though, and he needs to be the next coordinator fired.
Otherwise, the McCaskey family will have even more egg on their face than they already do.
