Bears Coach Leaving to Reunite With Familiar Face Who Just Got New Job

After an immensely disappointing 2024 season, the Chicago Bears revamped their coaching staff. After bringing in the hottest name on the coaching carousel, Ben Johnson, the Bears announced the hiring of Declan Doyle as the offensive coordinator and Dennis Allen as the defensive coordinator.

The Bears are desperately trying to take a step forward next season and make the playoffs after a four-year hiatus. Therefore, the changes in the coaching staff and personnel are expected to continue as the organization enters a new era under Ben Johnson.

Jason Houghtaling Leaves Bears to Join the Patriots Staff

Departures within the organization continued on Monday. Patriots insider Mike Reiss reported that the Bears' assistant offensive line coach Jason Houghtaling is leaving Chicago to join Mike Vrabel's staff in New England.

Houghtaling worked under Vrabel in Tennessee as the offensive line coach. After Vrabel's departure after the 2023 season, Houghtaling joined the Bears. Chicago's offensive line was a major disappointment all season, resulting in Caleb Williams becoming the most-sacked quarterback in the league in his rookie season.

After spending last season as a consultant with the Browns, Vrabel is returning to the sidelines with the Patriots. He has been building his staff since his hire and is bringing familiar faces. After bringing in Josh McDaniels as the offensive coordinator, the Patriots are also hiring former Bears interim head coach Thomas Brown as the tight ends coach and pass game coordinator.

With the departure of Houghtaling, the Bears will likely revamp their offensive line staff under Declan Doyle. Whether first-time offensive coordinator will bring anyone from his previous stops with the Saints and the Broncos remains to be seen.
