The Chicago Bears have a massive game at home against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3. They are 0-2 and have former head coach Matt Eberflus coming into town.
He's the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator, and there are some concerns that he could have some info on the Bears quarterback Caleb Williams that could give them the upper hand, but Chicago head coach Ben Johnson isn't worried about that and pointed out that people inside the building know what Eberflus likes to do as well.
On Wednesday, Johnson said, "Yeah, well, we've got guys in the building that know how his mind works. So we have some information on just schematically how he liked to approach my offense in general, and his feelings on Caleb. I feel like we know what he knows, and we'll be just fine there."
Bears Aren’t Worried About Matt Eberflus in Week 3
Eberflus was Williams' coach for his rookie season, so there are some things he knows about the quarterback. While it does make sense that he may know some things that Williams likes to do, he's playing in a new system.
Naturally, there are some things that Eberflus will know about the young QB. That shouldn't be enough to give him that big of an advantage. Like Johnson said, people in that building know what he likes to do defensively as well and will use those against him.
And through two weeks, Eberflus' defense with the Cowboys has been a dumpster fire. Dallas is 30th in team defense (404) and passing defense (283). They are also tied for 28th in points allowed (30.5). New York Giants QB Russell Wilson went 30-of-41 for 450 passing yards and three passing touchdowns.
Looking at this stat line should have Bears fans excited about the possibility of what this offense can do. Chicago hasn't scored more than 24 points in either game this season. In both games, the offense comes out effective but things fall off as the game goes on.
The Bears need to find a way to break this trend, and Week 3 presents the perfect chance to do so. The tape that Eberflus' defense has put on through two games is bad. Add in that players on the Bears team know what he likes to run. It makes plenty of sense why Johnson isn't worried about what Eberflus knows going into this bout. He feels confident they'll be prepared for whatever he throws their way.
