The Chicago Bears are happy the 2024 season is officially over. The season started with a ton of optimism and excitement but ended with anger and disappointment.

The Bears went 5-12 but changes happened during the season. In November, they fired Matt Eberflus and made Thomas Brown the interim coach. That didn't help either, and the team has started the process of finding their next coach.

GM Ryan Poles is leading the charge along with Kevin Warren to find the next lead man for the job. On Monday, Chicago requested to interview Mike McCarthy, but the Cowboys didn't respond to the Bears. Then on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Dallas denied permission for Chicago to interview McCarthy.

Cowboys Denied Bears From Interviewing Mike McCarthy

The reason this should bother Bears fans is that McCarthy's contract with Dallas is set to expire on Jan. 14. He coached this entire season on the final year of his deal and the Cowboys didn't offer him an extension.

By this time next week, McCarthy will be on the open market unless both sides can agree on a new deal.

From the Bears' perspective, Dallas had all this time to strike a deal but they didn't. Blocking Chicago from even getting an interview with the 61-year-old must be infuriating.

The Bears may be looking to get an offensive mind to lead this team, especially with quarterback Caleb Williams in the fold. Over 18 seasons as a head coach with the Green Bay Packers and Cowboys, McCarthy has a 174-112-2 record with nine playoff appearances. He secured Super Bowl XLV with Green Bay and had multiple successful seasons with Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott running the show.

He is known for being a solid offensive mind in the league, and the Bears had an interest in him. Unfortunately, due to Dallas' incompetence, they weren't able to interview McCarthy and had to move on to other candidates.
