It was another disappointing season for the Chicago Bears. The 2024 campaign that started with a ton of optimism and hope quickly turned into a disaster. The team went through a ten-game losing streak to finish the season 5-12 in Caleb Williams' first season in the NFL.

This marked the third losing season in a row for general manager Ryan Poles. Since arriving in Chicago from the Chiefs in the 2022 offseason, Poles made various aggressive moves that were widely praised. These, unfortunately, haven't turned into success on the field, as highlighted by the Bears' 15-36 record during his tenure.

Poles still has some job security heading into the offseason but changes are being made in his staff. Bears insider Brad Biggs reported that the team is parting ways with director of football analytics Krithi Chandrakasan.

This decision is particularly noteworthy because Chandrakasan was one of the staffers Poles brought from Kansas City. Chandrakasan was with the Chiefs for three seasons before following the new Bears GM to Chicago. This decision to fire a familiar face like him could signal more changes will be coming in the front office.

Chandrakasan's name may not be familiar to Bears fans but it's hard to argue that whatever the analytics department was doing in Chicago wasn't particularly effective. As pointed out on X, it was his department that ranked the likes of Velus Jones Jr. and Chase Claypool very high in terms of analytical scores.

It is difficult to know from the outside how big of a role and impact the analytics department can have on an organization. Yet, the results speak for themselves. A change was needed and it is here. Whether it proves fruitful remains to be seen.
