Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: Building the Trenches

Princely Umanmielen. player. 532. Princely Umanmielen. Round 2, Pick 39. Princely Umanmielen. . . Edge. 2
Similar to the offensive line, the Bears' defensive front needs some help as well. Montez Sweat is really the only pass-rushing threat they have, so they had to deal with a plethora of double-teams last season. Demarcus Walker is an average guy on the opposite side of him, and Austin Booker still needs to bulk up to see consistent playing time.
Umanmielen has great size for the position at 6'4", 265 lbs. New defensive coordinator Dennis Allen definitely has a type when it comes to edge defenders as well. Trey Hendrickson, Cameron Jordan, and Chase Young are all very large humans who saw production in Allen's scheme.
The pass-rushing ability is what will likely get him drafted in the first couple of rounds as his run defense is still a work in progress. His 91.5 pass-rush grade was good for fifth in the nation per PFF. He had 11 sacks in 2024 which was tied for 10th in the nation.
He is definitely more of a finesse-edge, utilizing his athleticism and speed to beat blockers, so he may struggle to see consistent time outside of pass-rushing downs early on in his career. The Bears desperately need to get to the quarterback more in 2025, and Umanmielen can not only do that himself but take some of the eyes off Sweat on the other end to free him up as well.
