The Chicago Bears are in the full swing of things at training camp as veterans and newcomers continue to work to prove their worth to the coaching staff.

The secondary is considered a strong suit for the Bears entering the 2025 campaign with players like Jaylon Johnson, Tre Flowers, Tyrique Stevenson, and Kyler Gordon at cornerback and Jaquan Brisker and Kevin Byard III at safety.

Players further down the depth chart have impressed thus far, though, leading defensive coordinator Dennis Allen to single out one newcomer to Chicago's defense who most recently suited up for a division rival.

With Jaylon Johnson still sidelined as he rehabs an offseason leg injury, the opportunities are there for other players in the secondary to set themselves apart from the rest of the pack, and Nahshon Wright has seemingly done that.

Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen suggested as much on Wednesday when noting Wright had improved since the spring and took all the pieces of advice given by defensive backs coach Al Harris to heart.

A former third-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys, Wright has appeared in 33 games over his four seasons in the NFL with three starts under his belt. Over his three seasons with the Cowboys, the former Oregon State standout racked up 37 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, and one interception in 32 appearances. This past campaign he appeared in just one game for the Vikings, seeing time on the special teams unit and recording no statistics.

Chicago's front office jumped at the opportunity to add Wright this offseason. GM Ryan Poles got a deal done with the defensive back just one day after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings in April, and it looks like that may have been a shrewd move despite the risk.

Wright has seized the opportunity in front of him and done what he can to make the most of the first-team reps he has received with the Bears' defense. This is not a moment the cornerback is taking lightly, as Wright explained to Jacob Leiser of the Chicago Sun-Times.

‘‘It allows me to show I can compete with the [starters] and go out there and make plays,’’ Wright said. ‘‘If my number needs to be called, I can provide. This is one of my best ‘opps’ at showing what I can do.’’

Wright has clearly caught the eye of Allen and could be playing his way into a regular role in the secondary if he keeps up this level of play throughout the preseason.
