4. Ignore the Clues Eberflus Left for a Successful Bears Defense

Former Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus, will not be remembered as a great Bears coach. He should be remembered as a pretty great defensive coordinator. The Colts were a great defense before he came to Chicago and the Bears were a top five unit before he was fired and calling the plays.

While Ebeflus was with the Bears this year, they were a top two pass defense, top in red zone defense, top 12 in yards allowed (fell to 27 after he was fired), and top five in points allowed. The Bears held the Texans to 19 points, Rams to 18, Commanders to 18, Packers to 20, and the Lions to 23 under Eberflus in 2024.

Eberflus had no problem getting a job in the offseason as he will take the helm of the Cowboys defense in 2025. It would be foolish for new Bears defensive coordinator Allen not to study what went well for the Bears defense under Eberflus, especially the second half of 2023 and the first half of the 2024 season.

Allen is a fantastic defensive mind of his own. Per the Sun-Times, he inherited a terrible Saints defense and converted them to a top 10 unit by his third season. In seven consecutive seasons the Saints were 14th or better in points allowed per game. As a former head coach, he can also help Johnson with his transition from coordinator to head coach.

It would be criminal to not study Eberflus' defensive success with the Bears.

5. Not Sell the Team

Let's face it, to all fans' chagrin, the McCaskeys are not going to sell the team. This ownership has worn out its welcome in Chicago. While their team has been in last place the last two years, the McCaskey's have been trying to build a new stadium and asking fans to pay for it.

Chicago deserves an ownership that operates like, and more importantly, spends like a big market team that they are. We need offensive and defensive lineman and that will cost money which is available with the fifth most cap space in the league.

We don't need Allen Paige, Julius Peppers, or Jared Allen at the end of their career. We need kids in their prime of their career to help start a dynasty. The McCaskeys aren't the ones to lead that cause, but maybe they will surprise fans.

If this is a turning point year, with the hottest new quarterback, the hottest new head coach, and a complete supporting cast on offense and defense, why not start a new page on ownership.
