5 Chicago Bears Entering Their Last Year With the Team
D’Andre Swift
Swift is entering the last year of his deal with the Bears. He is coming off of a strong year, but he is not a runner that head coach Ben Johnson specifically sought out and signed. It could speak to Johnson having a good scheme and them being able to find a cheaper back who can replicate Swift's production. This could mean that Swift produces and looks to get paid elsewhere.
Garrett Bradbury
Bradbury is expected to be a short-term fix at center. He is an experienced veteran with 105 career starts. However, he is on his third team in as many years for a reason. He will hold things down while the team gets Logan Jones ready. Then, they will let Bradbury leave in free agency and start Jones.
Braxton Jones
Jones signed a one-year deal in free agency to try to rebuild his reputation. He will get to start at left tackle while Ozzy Trapilo recovers from his injury. However, when Trapilo returns, Jones will be pushed out. So, Jones has a few weeks to show how good he is, and then he can use that to get paid in free agency this offseason. It would be surprising if he came back as a backup next year.
Tyrique Stevenson
Stevenson has not been a good fit for the defense. They drafted him when Matt Eberflus was the head coach. He was solid in his rookie season, but had a mental mistake on the Hail Mary loss to the Washington Commanders. He has not been able to rebound since then.
The Bears limped to the end of his second year, and his third year saw a new coach who is not tied to him. Now, he enters year four with a chance to prove he belongs. However, he is likely putting tape out for other teams.
Dayo Odeyingbo
Odeyingbo is signed through next year. However, he has a cap hit over $26M. If the team cuts him, they will save $15.5M. The Bears might try to keep Odeyingbo if he has a good season. However, it will not be on his current contract. They will restructure or cut him.
