5 Bears Leaving Chicago in the New Year
3. Teven Jenkins - G
Teven Jenkins was probably the hardest one to have on this list. When he is on the field, he is one of the best lineman the Bears have. The problem is that he is not on the field enough.
They say the best ability is availability, and Jenkins simply does not provide that. Once upon a time, Jenkins was thought of as the future at left tackle, but since then has made a home at guard and played well. The injuries are definitely something that needs to be taken into account when deciding if the Bears are going to re-sign him this offseason or let him walk.
I would imagine the Bears will be going deep on offensive linemen in the draft so they can likely find a guard somewhere. Kiran Amegadjie is another guy who can potentially move inside. He was drafted in the 3rd round this year, but dealt with an injury most of the year before coming in and looking like he wasnt' ready to face NFL talent.
Maybe a full offseason will allow him to prepare better for next season and get some reps at guard. This move can go either way, but it has been reported by Brad Biggs who covers the Bears that they likely will move on.
There will be a handful of veteran guards hitting the market next offseason including Zach Martin, James Daniels, Will Hernandez, and Nate Herbig. It will be interesting to see what types of numbers these guys get on their next deals, but the Bears should at the very least be in the running to land one of them. The Panthers signed two guards to lucrative deals last season in attempts to protect Bryce Young in the middle of the line. Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt are PFF's 13th and 22nd ranked guards. The Bears need to completely overhaul their offensive line so expect lots of moves to be made this offseason.
