5 Bears Immediately on Thin Ice to Begin 2025 Offseason
By Joe Summers
4. Tyrique Stevenson - CB
Few could've predicted how Tyrique Stevenson's sophomore season would go after being a second-round pick out of Miami in the 2023 NFL Draft. His embarrassing moments became the avatar of Chicago's miserable year, illustrated perfectly by his laughable actions during the Commanders' Hail Mary that ultimately doomed the Bears' campaign.
From the moment that Stevenson prioritized talking trash over actually playing football, he became a joke. It doesn't help that he ranked 145th out of 219 qualified cornerbacks at Pro Football Focus entering Weke 18, failing to overcome the target he put on his own back with his constant distractions.
Even if his actions weren't an issue, little about Stevenson's on-field play justified the high draft pedigree.
He surrendered a decent 87.9 passer rating when targeted in coverage with a pair of interceptions, clearly still in possession of the athletic talent that made him a coveted selection. Based on his actions though, there seems to be something wrong from a mental standpoint that's held him back in the long run.
There's no excuse for the errors Stevenson made this year. He still has two seasons left on his rookie deal and has plenty of time to turn things around, but any respectable front office would already be planning for his replacement just in case.
Hopefully, a player with this much potential can get things corrected between the ears for a more impactful 2025.
