2. Velus Jones Jr. KR/WR - 2022 Round 3, Pick 71

Jones was general manger Ryan Poles' first third-round pick and he completely whiffed. This wasn't the last time either, unfortunately (more on that later). The athletic ability seemed to be there with Jones as he was coming off a great year at Tennessee where he racked up 822 total yards and seven touchdowns. He also excelled on special teams, returning kicks and punts.

Many questioned how raw he was as a receiver and the questions were warranted as he caught just seven passes for 107 yards and one touchdown his rookie year. The best-case scenario was that he could potentially have a role similar to Cordarrelle Patterson, another former-Volunteer with outstanding speed and athleticism.

The muffed kicks and dropped passes started to become a true problem in his second season and the future did not look bright for him as a Bear. This past year, the team decided to move him to running back during training camp in the hopes of getting any sort of production out of him. He had a couple flashes in preseason, but was playing against the third and fourth string defenses in of the NFL.

A possible trade situation leaked during Hard Knocks, but Poles did not move off Jones likely as he still had hope for his own draft pick. He definitely should have taken that trade, whatever it was, as the Bears ultimately released Jones in October after a stretch of five games in which he was a healthy scratch.
