4 Blackhawks on Thin Ice Heading Into December

It's another NHL season where the Blackhawks are projected to miss the playoffs. As a result, these four players' future in Chicago isn't guaranteed.

3. Joey Anderson, RW

Joey Anderson was one of the Blackhawks' more underrated players last season. Although his 17 points in 55 games wasn't the most eye-popping performance, the veteran forward handled most of his offensive abilities while also being one of the team's best defensive forwards.

Anderson is still playing well defensively this season, however, his offensive production has dropped off a cliff. Despite being shuffled through various line combinations, the ex-2016 third-rounder has struggled to produce with just one assist in 12 games. Not only hasn't he scored since the 2023-24 regular-season finale, but the last time he scored at home was on March 17.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Anderson down the stretch. It wouldn't be surprising if the Blackhawks received interest regarding him ahead of the trade deadline. Even if he isn't scoring, he's a solid defensive forward who's playing on a cheap contract ($800,000) and is signed through 2025-26, meaning Chicago could get back a decent turn if he's no longer a part of the club's plans.

Moving on from a fan favorite like Anderson would be tough, but that's the nature of the business. If the 26-year-old forward doesn't want to be traded, it's up to him to prove why he belongs in the Blackhawks' future.
