3 Teams the Chicago Bears Could Trade Up With in the First Round of the NFL Draft

The cost of moving up might not be so much according to one Chicago Bears beat reporter.

The Chicago Bears won the last time they were in Green Bay.

Now the hope is the Bears can keep winning in their rival's city on the field and in the upcoming NFL Draft, which is being hosted at Lambeau Field.

The Bears are armed with four picks in the draft's first 75 selections.

The hope is that the Bears address their offensive and defensive lines with the No. 10, 39, 41, and 72 picks in rounds one through three.

At the same time, the Bears could use another tight end and running back. Jaquan Brisker's long-term health questions mean Chicago could also use a safety.

If the Bears want to build a champion around Caleb Williams with Ben Johnson coaching the team to a Super Bowl, this franchise must keep adding impact players.

This draft might not have a ton of depth when it comes to franchise players, but the first couple of rounds do provide a chance to get starting-caliber players.

However, NIL has depleted college underclassmen from jumping into the draft, so it means the overall depth is not very good.

It is one reason why general manager Ryan Poles has been trading away his later-round picks for veteran help.

This draft is lacking elite quarterbacks and prospects who can be cornerstone players. While that could be viewed as a bad thing, one Chicago Bears beat writer sees the team having an opportunity to move up and improve their chances of getting one of the true impact players in this draft.

Bears May Trade Up for a Relatively Low Cost per One Beat Writer

The lack of depth means the trade value charts teams use might have to be adjusted to where moving up from No. 10 might not cost too many extra picks in years past.

Possibly jumping up in the draft might not cost the Bears, say, both of the second-round picks they have.

That means if the Bears really love Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, and they are not confident he will fall, they might not have to pay a steep price to move up.

3 Potential Trade Partners for the Chicago Bears in the NFL Draft

New England Patriots

It is looking like the Tennessee Titans are going to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick. The Cleveland Browns are likely to take the best player they deem available. The New York Giants could go with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders or the best player available.

Either way, it is unlikely those three teams will pass on getting the best players in the draft and move down.

Say, the Browns go with Travis Hunter over Abdul Carter and the Giants take Sanders, the Patriots could be a team the Bears could offer up one of their two second-round picks and maybe an additional pick to go get Carter.

The Patriots are set at quarterback with Drake Maye. They are rebuilding, so another pick in the top 75 might help them.

However, New England could also stay at No. 4 and take a game-wrecker like Carter or a special talent like Hunter if one of those players falls to them.

Jacksonville Jaguars

They, too, are set at quarterback even if Trevor Lawrence regressed last season.

There has been talk that if the Giants decide to kick the can down the road and get their future quarterback in another draft, that will leave Sanders available at No. 5.

There is a thought that the Jags would trade down to a team wanting to jump the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Jets.

Maybe they will also trade down to No. 10 with the Bears if Chicago is serious about drafting Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who some think could get drafted by the Raiders.

Carolina Panthers

The Bears and Panthers are no strangers to each other when it comes to doing draft trades. The Bears pulled off one of the best trades in NFL history when they traded the 2023 No. 1 overall pick to Carolina for wide receiver D.J. Moore, two first-round picks, and two second-round choices.

One of those draft picks turned out to be the No. 1 overall pick in last year's draft that the Bears used to select quarterback Caleb Williams.

Bryce Young was the player the Panthers took No. 1 overall in 2023. After a shaky rookie season and getting benched at one point last season, he proved he is worthy of being the No. 1 overall pick.

The Panthers still need to build up their roster. Maybe, they might want to get their second-round pick back from Chicago that Carolina had to give up in that 2023 trade. It makes sense considering that Carolina picks at No. 8 and then will not draft until No. 57 in the second round.
