General Manager Ryan Poles has a new head coach. With Ben Johnson now in charge, he also has two new coordinators. Dennis Allen is in charge of the defense, and Declan Doyle is calling the plays on offense.
The Chicago Bears have their franchise quarterback courtesy of last year's number one overall pick in the NFL Draft. In this year's draft, there are many potential players to help build this roster into a playoff contender.
It has been more than four years since the Bears have made the playoffs. It is the longest drought in the NFC North as all three other teams qualified for the postseason in 2024.
With a few holes and depth still a question, Chicago needs a solid game plan and to walk away with a strong draft class to become a legit threat in the NFC again.
Bears Must Stay Away from These 3 Positions in the Draft
1. Tight End
Chicago has Cole Kmet still as their starting tight end. The backup is another former Notre Dame alum, Durham Smythe.
For now, it appears that the Bears are moving on from Mercedes Lewis. The veteran tight end remains unsigned. Thus, he is a viable option should Chicago sour on Stephen Carlson or Joel Wilson.
According to PFF.com News, they have Tyler Warren (Penn State), Colston Loveland (Michigan), and Elijah Arroyo, (Miami of Florida) as the top three tight ends in this year's draft. Those are the only three athletes at this position expected to go within the first couple of rounds in the draft.
Thus, there is not a lot of depth in this year's rookie class at tight end. Patience is a virtue. If Chicago remains patient, it might get a veteran from preseason cuts. Someone like Charlie Woerner of the Atlanta Falcons may get released prior to Week 1.
Either way, the Bears still would benefit from some more offensive line help and a second rusher to complement D'Andre Swift.
