The Chicago Bears are off to a 6-2 start to the season after adding Jeffery Simmons before the trade deadline. The team is one of the best positioned to compete for a Super Bowl. While all of the talk is centered around Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams being the two cornerstone pieces of this turnaround, there are a few other pieces who deserve some credit.
3 Most underrated pieces of the Chicago Bears turnaround
Ryan Poles
There were times during the Bears rebuild that General Manager Ryan Poles was firmly on the hot seat. There were moments last year when it felt like his seat was not secure. However, Poles should get credit for bringing in Williams and Johnson. He is most responsible for both of them being in Chicago. He put the roster in a position where the head coach wanted to come here, and the offense can thrive with Williams.
The offensive line, the skill players, and all of the pieces around Williams can also be credited to Poles. Poles went from the hot seat to someone who might end up winning Executive of the Year.
Dennis Allen
Another strong decision by Poles was to hire defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. Every week you hear about how the Bears defense has needs, holes, and issues. Then, every week, the defense plays better than expected. That is a credit to Allen.
The Bears are getting the most out of Devin Bush, a free-agent addition that Allen identified. His plan to use Kyler Gordon has been excellent. Rookie Dillon Thieneman has hit the ground running. Their edge rusher room does not look like the issue it should be on paper.
Now that the Bears have Jeffery Simmons, the defense should be even scarier than it was when it was undermanned. It might not have looked this way if it were not for Allen.
Chicago Bears Offensive Line
The development of Caleb Williams has been impressive. Ben Johnson is a great play caller. Both of them are a lot better because of the offensive line. The two names to highlight are guards Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney.
They have been consistent staples and have allowed the Bears to build everything around their run game. Darnell Wright has turned into a franchise left tackle. They have enough talent at center and right tackle to get by. The offensive line is an underrated reason the Bears are Super Bowl contenders.
