The Chicago Bears may have fallen flat on their faces against the Green Bay Packers during their embarrassing Week 5 loss, but not every single aspect of the game was bad. Several of the Bears players shined, but they weren't enough for the Bears to even come close.
Devin Bush
Devin Bush was brought in to the Bears defense as a free agent to bolster a unit in need. Bush has recorded 27 tackles so far this season, and in Week 5 against the Packers, he led the Bears for the first time with eight combined tackles, three of which were solo. Bush may not have been on the top of the leaderboard for every Bears game, but he's been quietly compiling the second best tackle record on the team.
Dillon Thieneman
Thieneman once again stood out among his peers, collecting another 7 total tackles on the day to contribute to his team-leading 37 tackles. This is Thieneman's fifth straight week being among the top two tacklers on the Bears. Thieneman has spent his time with the Bears not disappointing after Chicago selected him 25th overall.
He's a name to continue watching, anchoring the Bears secondary as we await the debut of Coby Bryant with the Bears.
Zavion Thomas
Prior to Week 5, the Bears had the worst kick return average in the game. Though Zavion Thomas was a third round selection, he wowed the crowds during the preseason, and displayed his biggest weapon: his speed. But up until Sunday against the Packers, that speed had largely been absent. Against the Packers, Thomas returned six kicks for a total of 192 yards, his longest being a 61 yard return when the Bears were already down. Thomas also made an appearance on offense, collecting one catch on his only target for 11 yards.
It's never easy taking one on the chin like the Bears just did, and it's so much worse when it comes at the hands of your most heated rivals. But there's a lot of season left to get things in order, and the next time the Bears face this Packers team, it will be in the cold of Soldier Field on Christmas. Hopefully this team can get itself in order by then.
