The Chicago Bears have two preseason games left to play. This should open the door for a couple of rookie UDFAs to make their last push for a roster spot. Three rookies stand out as players who might be on the Bears longer than expected, despite their UDFA status.Â
3 Chicago Bears UDFAs with The Most to Gain in Final 2 Preseason Games
Caden Barnett
The rookie UDFA from Wyoming can still make a strong push for the roster. He had a great preseason opener, with 56 total snaps. Overall, he only sat for eight snaps on offense. They clearly wanted to get a good look at him. He notably picked up a couple of huge blocks on Salvon Ahmed’s catch-and-run for a score. Â

Now, he has to finalize his push. Logan Jones being strictly a backup center could lead the Bears to want to keep three backup interior players. Luke Newman is likely ahead of Barnett on the depth chart. Then, he is competing with Jordan McFadden for the third backup spot. Can he take another step this week?
Jayden Loving
Who said the Bears defensive line is thin? Loving has joined the room as a rookie UDFA from Wake Forest. He has had a strong training camp and played 30 snaps in the preseason opener. However, the interior line depth chart appears to be too deep for him to make headway.
Gervon Dexter is locked in next to Grady Jarrett. With Jarrett out of the preseason opener, the team gave Kentavius Street the starter treatment.Â
Then, free-agent addition Neville Gallimore and rookie Jordan van den Berg worked ahead of Loving. They both played well enough that Loving could not climb the depth chart. He will continue to push, but might need someone to slip up. The good news is that he is on pace to give them quality depth on the practice squad.Â
Skyler ThomasÂ
The rookie UDFA from Oregon State has a real chance to make the team. He played 44 snaps in the preseason opener, which was the third most of any Bears defender. The biggest thing in his favor is the numbers. The Bears appear to be ready to move Cam Lewis into the slot. Elijah Hicks is currently on the PUP.
So, the team has Xavier Woods and Dillon Thieneman, and then the depth gets very thin after that. Can Thomas lock down a roster spot?
