One thing that looks to be similar to between both Ben Johnson and Doyle is that they come from systems where running back tandems were utilized. The Saints had Alvin Kamara and Latavius Murray during Doyle's time there, the Broncos had Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin this past season, and the Lions had Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The Bears have a solid back in D'Andre Swift, but the backup role has not been as productive as one would wish.

Johnson has been utilized mainly in a goal-line role to this point of his career. He has been solid in that role, but the Bears were obviously hoping to get more than that after spending a 4th round pick on the former backup to Bijan Robinson. He has dealt with injuries including concussions due to his bruising running style. He played in 14 games this past season and ended with just 55 carries for 150 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Swift and Johnson could be the generic version of Gibbs and Montgomery, but they are honestly not that close. Running back will likely be a position the Bears look to improve upon this offseason. Unlike tight end, the running back position is loaded in this draft headlined by Heisman finalist Ashton Jeanty. Some have flirted with the idea of the Bears selecting him 10th overall. I think that is a reach when the trenches are needed much more, but taking a running back in the 3rd or 4th round is definitely a possibility if the staff is not sold on Roschon Johnson.
