3 Bears That Must Be Re-Signed Immediately This Offseason
3. Keenan Allen, Wide Receiver
Keenan Allen is definitely not the player we once saw when he was in his prime with the Los Angeles Chargers, but this guy was still playing at a very high level for the Bears in 2024.
Allen led the Bears' stellar group of playmakers this year with seven receiving touchdowns and tied for the team lead along with DJ Moore with 43 first-down receptions. He managed to do that despite catching 28 fewer passes than Moore throughout the season.
The fact of the matter is Allen is still a valuable weapon for a quarterback like Williams, and the two developed nice chemistry over the course of the season. The Bears have plenty of salary cap space to work with and don't need to skimp on the weapons now.
Unless they plan on completely replacing Allen's targets by giving Rome Odunze all the action he can handle in 2025, I'm not sure there's a reasonable justification for not making this type of move. Allen is probably going to be a year-to-year kind of guy at this point in his career anyway, and although the Bears are changing offensive schemes in 2025, Allen should be relatively scheme-proof.
Even though it felt like a total luxury to have as many big-name receivers as the Bears assembled last year, the trajectory of their season proved it was anything but. For a quarterback like Caleb Williams who already took way more sacks than he should have, keeping guys like Allen who can get open consistently is crucial.
