3 Bears Playing Their Way Out of Chicago's 2025 Plans
By Joe Summers
2. Keenan Allen - WR
Acquiring Keenan Allen from the Chargers for a fourth-round pick this offseason was a logical decision for a revamped offense built around Caleb Williams. Unfortunately, injuries and age have zapped Allen's overall effectiveness.
Despite an outsized salary, Allen has appeared in only six games thus far, catching 21 passes for 197 yards and two TDs. Williams has only a 79.2 passer rating when targeting the 32-year-old wideout. Assuming big changes are coming offensively moving forward, it makes sense to part ways with the former Chargers star.
D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze are the future of the position in Chicago. The Bears have a potential out of Allen's contract after this season but would face a cap hit north of $23 million should they keep him.
The issues aren't really Allen's fault. Shane Waldron and Matt Eberflus' schemes are mediocre at best. Williams hasn't been particularly accurate, while the offensive line hasn't given him enough time to run through his progressions anyway.
This is a roster that needs massive upgrades in a variety of areas. Allen's contract makes more sense on a ready-made team. The Bears aren't that and this one-year rental will prove to be a mistake.
