3 Bears on Thin Ice Even After Encouraging Win

The hype train is building! Even after a huge win over Carolina, however, there remain a few weak links on a hopefully blooming roster.

2. OG Matt Pryor/Other Replacement-Level Guard

I’d posit no Bear offensive lineman is at risk of losing his job after Sunday’s performance (one sack allowed, zero other hits). This is merely a recognition of some stellar relief work that should have Pryor and whatever alternative scrap heap guard looking over their shoulder.

When guard Teven Jenkins left the game with an ankle injury, backup Bill Murray (not that one) met the moment. In 37 snaps, he allowed zero sacks, hits, or pressures, and gave high school O-line coaches around the country exemplary film on why you should always be looking for work.

Murray graded out as the Bears second best offensive player on the day (just behind Jenkins), per PFF. Guard and center have been well-documented trap doors this year, leading to Nate Davis being benched and far too many people knowing Coleman Shelton’s name.

If Murray continues to look like a viable option – or if rookie lineman Kiran Amegadjie flashes similar promise – more changes could be coming.
