3 Bears Draft Targets to Watch at the Senior Bowl
3. Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon
The Bears may be looking for a WR3 if Keenan Allen is not brought back which seems to be the case as of right now. They have a good pair of options in D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze, but they do not have a true burner to take the top of defenses. We all saw what Ben Johnson was able to do with Jameson Williams in Detroit, so the Bears will likely be looking to add someone with elite speed to the room. Enter Tez Johnson.
The obvious knock on Johnson is that he is absolutely tiny. At 5'9", and 156 pounds, he is one of the smallest prospects to ever enter the draft.
We have seen plenty of smaller receivers have success in the league due to their speed and run-after-the-catch ability. Xavier Worthy, the fastest man ever at the NFL Combine, measured in at 5'11" and 165 pounds a year ago, was taken in the first round and is now headed to the Super Bowl. Johnson will need to have an excellent week and an outstanding 40-yard dash to cement him as a top-50 pick.
The Bears will not be asking Johnson to come in and run dig routes over the middle every drive and take a beating from defenders. He will stretch the defense to open things up underneath and be utilized in the screen game or shallow crossing routes. He can also provide returns on punts and kickoffs as he is very quick and has a great change of direction. There is still a lot of time before the draft so will be interesting to see where Johnson will land and how high he can go at his size.
