Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields had one of the best games of his career this past Sunday in the team’s handling of the Detroit Lions.

Fields may not have been perfect but he showed clear reasons why he should be entrusted with being the starting quarterback of the team beyond this season.

That is where the problem lies when many Bears fans and local pundits watch Fields. They are too close to the situation. Meaning, they see every single snap that Fields takes as the starting quarterback for the Bears. In seeing every single snap that Fields has, they then compare it to the flash plays that they see other quarterbacks make.

It’s a dangerous comparison. The reason is that Bears fans are not watching other quarterbacks as closely as they are Fields. The imperfections of other quarterbacks across the NFL are missed because Bears fans are not watching them as intently as they are Fields.

Every quarterback in the NFL has flaws. Every quarterback in the NFL has plays that they wish they had back. Fields is no different but he has proved with his play that he is capable of making a play when needed.

Still, it may not matter.

The Bears are likely going to have the first overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. Regardless of what Fields does during the final four games of the regular season, it may not matter if the front office is already set on making a quarterback change.

That was the belief of Connor Livesay of the 33rd team in his latest mock draft that had the Bears taking USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall selection.

"Fit: No change here at No. 1, despite Justin Fields playing one of the best games of his Chicago Bears career. Caleb Williams (or Drake Maye) is the best option for the Bears with the first overall pick. Chicago should be able to regain some value in a Fields trade with so many teams quarterback-needy going into 2024.-The 33rd Team"

It won’t be an easy decision for Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles. Fields has answered the question asked of him but if the team ultimately believes they can’t win a Super Bowl with him as their quarterback, it’s likely that there would be a change this off-season.
