The Chicago Bears went into Sunday with nothing to lose against the division-leading Detroit Lions. They outmanned, outplanned, and outplayed them to get the upset victory in front of the home fans. Now, out of absolutely nowhere, this team is looking ahead and thinking the playoffs are within reach, much like last season’s Lions team. However, some news on the injury front is slowing down some of those positive vibes.

Chicago Bears lose Ngakoue for the season after Sunday’s injury.

Bears defensive lineman Yannick Ngakoue suffered a broken ankle, requiring surgery, and he will be out for the remainder of the season. This is a huge loss to a Bears defense that has been finding their stride in the last couple of weeks, becoming one of the best units in the league. Ngakoue himself has played a wonderful role in that development, even recording a sack before he left the game versus the Lions.

It will most likely be Rasheem Green who steps up in Ngakoue’s absence on the line. But this unit as a whole has done a great job at picking their teammates up when needed.

The Bears’ defensive line still has Montez Sweat, who came over in a trade with the Washington Commanders earlier this season. With Sweat still on the line, Tremaine Edmunds and TJ Edwards as linebackers, Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson on the corners, and Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker at safety, this defensive unit is still extremely scary to face. They should be jumping at the opportunity to step up for their guy and the team.
