The Chicago Cubs free agency frenzy moves forward as the team looks to build on a positive 2023 season.

The Cubs just missed the playoffs, but stayed in the race nearly until the end. A lot of their success came from the resurgence of former league MVP Cody Bellinger, who was named the National League Comeback Player of the Year last season. Now, Bellinger is a free agent and is fielding offers from other teams in the league. That being said, one insider believes Chicago is where he will be for a while.

The latest free agency prediction has Bellinger returning to the Chicago Cubs.

Get the hard hats out in the bleachers, folks. Jim Bowden of the Athletic predicts Bellinger will be coming back to the North Side to hit Belli Bombs all summer long (Subscription Required). We saw 26 of those bombs last season while Bellinger was hitting a scorching hot .307 from the left side of the plate. His ability to make contact and find the gaps is what helped set himself up for a big payday this offseason.

Not only that, versatility is something he brings to the table as well. The Cubs could have him playing first or the outfield at a gold-glove caliber. Bellinger at first base, specifically, consistently could relieve a lot of long-term problems and worries for the Cubs.

We’ll see what it will take to land one of Scott Boras’ top clients. But if this insider is correct, it sure will help the Cubs compete for a championship as the winning window is wide open.
