Getz not wanting to do a full rebuild.

Being averse to a full-out rebuild is going to keep this franchise in MLB purgatory for years to come. Reinsdorf is reluctant to a full-scale rebuild. It was one of the reasons Getz was promoted.

To think a retool is all this club needs is like putting spackle on a burned down wall.

The Sox have too many roster holes for a retool. The roster needs to be ripped down to the studs.

As it stands, the starting rotation is Dylan Cease and a whole lot of bad. If the Sox end up trading Cease, your Opening Day rotation would be Michael Kopech, Michael Soroka, Touki Toussaint, Jesse Scholtens, and then a competition of Jared Schuster, maybe Garrett Crochet and some prospects.

That rotation would not even contend in the Pioneer League.

The bullpen is Gregory Santos and a bunch of pitchers you have never heard of. Although, not sinking a ton of money into the bullpen is not a bad thing. Allocating significant precious budget resources into the pen is what contributed to the killing of the last contention period.

Still, the bullpen lacks the talent to win a division title.

You got weak hitters at second and shortstop in Nicky Lopez and DeJong. Gavin Sheets is listed as the starter in right field, a position we know he struggles to play at. Plus, Sheets is nothing more than a left-handed power bat off the bench. Giving him 400 at-bats is organizational negligence.

Oscar Colas should not even be an option in right.

Korey Lee is slated to be the Opening Day starting catcher. All he has shown in his career so far is he cannot hit major-league pitcher.

Luis Robert Jr. and Cease are the only players that qualifies as upper-level talent. Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez have the potential to be at that level, but they are always hurt or inconsistent.

Andrew Vaughn is trending towards being nothing more than a replacement-level player.

This a roster that screams out for rebuild, not a retool. Especially since the owner is not going to allow the necessary financial resources to pull off a retool of this magnitude. It is just another example of this franchise’s ineptitude. That is why an inept roster will be on the field in 2024.
