The Shohei Ohtani takes are scolding hot on the internet at the MLB Winter Meetings and the Chicago Cubs are in the thick of them all.

Although some reports are now favoring the Toronto Blue Jays to sign the superstar, one thing we’ve learned in the past is to not believe anything until something happens. Additionally, if you are a person who likes to gamble, betting against anything Bob Nightengale reports in free agency season is a profitable venture.

Bob Nightengale saying the Cubs are out means absolutely nothing.

Have we learned nothing, people? This morning we talked about a leak that theoretically put the Cubs in the driver’s seat. This tweet just solidifies that position. Last year, Nightengale reported and confirmed Aaron Judge to the San Francisco Giants. He also had another report this offseason that worked about the same.

Bob is a very nice guy and a wonderful follow during baseball season. He is very thoughtful when he puts analysis together and you can tell his love for the game knows no bounds. But when it comes to free agency, he’s bound to get one massive story wrong. We just have to believe this is the one.

The Cubs were cursed for 108 years before finally winning it all. There will come a time, very long from now, when Nightengale gets one of these right. This is just not the one.

Keep fighting, Cubs fans, it’s not over until we officially hear that Ohtani has signed with a team other than the Cubs.
