Chicago Bulls’ recent success means big trades make sense
By Thomas Erbe
After winning their last two games, both at home, the Chicago Bulls have become the first Chicago sports team to win consecutive games since the Cubs swept the Colorado Rockies in late September.
Yeah, it’s been that long.
It started with a thrilling overtime win against the Bucks on Thursday. Alex Caruso hit a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to end regulation and the Bulls defense swarmed any offensive attempt by the Bucks in the extra time.
Then, after being down much of the first half on Saturday night, the Bulls came into the third quarter with adjustments in the bag and a scorching hot Coby White from deep to run right past the Pelicans.
Interestingly enough, these efforts came with a couple of notable absences. DeMar DeRozan was out of the lineup on Thursday, and Zach LaVine did not play in either game. Seeing how well the ball has moved without these two all-star veterans leads me to believe it’d be okay to start searching for trades in hopes it would help the Bulls acquire necessary assets and move on.
It’s time for the Chicago Bulls to make moves and plan for the future.
It’s already being reported that both LaVine and DeRozan are gaining interest from teams in the league for a possible trade (subscription required). Whether these are moves for the individuals or some sort of package deal is yet to be determined.
I do believe the Bulls will look to move both DeRozan and LaVine before the trade deadline in order to secure future assets to help build a team. And after the performances displayed by the guys who were playing great team basketball these last couple of games, I feel I’m seeing a glimmer of hope and optimism in the franchise for the first time in years.
