There is a weekly referendum on the Chicago Bears quarterback position with each passing game.

We all know the circumstances at this point. The Bears are likely going to have the top selection in the NFL Draft for the second year in a row. Unlike the 2023 NFL Draft Class, the 2024 NFL Draft Class is believed to have a generational quarterback prospect in USC’s Caleb Williams. Even beyond Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye is graded higher than the quarterbacks who were taken at the top of last year’s draft–Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud.

Oh, the Bears will also need to make a decision on the fifth-year option of quarterback Justin Fields’ contract.

This upcoming Bears’ off-season is going to be defined by the decision that is made at the quarterback position.

To that end, it’s a decision that may have already been made. Bears’ beat writer for the Chicago Tribune, Brad Biggs, warned Bears fans on Friday to prepare for a quarterback change this off-season.

"“For those who are upset with the discussion of the possibility of the team possibly moving on from him after the season should probably adjust that to the probability that the team moves on from Justin Fields after the season because that’s where it appears to be headed as I evaluate the situation. There are five games remaining, so he’s got an opportunity to change the trajectory of this thing. But the evaluation at Halas Hall is going to be made on the entirety of it, not how people felt on December 1. It’s the entire season.”-Brad Biggs via 670 The Score"

Biggs has maintained for most of the season that the Bears will have a new starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Biggs is not typically one to offer baseless speculation, so, when he does offer a bread crumb such as his belief Fields will not be the starting quarterback next season, fans should listen.

It would seem that the odds are in the favor of the Bears making a change at the quarterback position after this season. The Bears will likely have their pick of Williams or Maye this April and that coupled with the ability to pair him with an offensive-minded head coach likely will outweigh anything the team sees from Fields during the final month of the season.
