Add the Atlanta Braves to the list of potential trade partners the Chicago White Sox will have for ace pitcher Dylan Cease.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Braves have contacted the Sox about acquiring Cease.

He reported last week that the Los Angeles Dodgers have already reached out and now we can add Atlanta.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi believes a deal could be completed soon.

Hopefully, general manager Chris Getz can come away with a nice return.

It is still unknown what Getz is asking for in return. There are reports that the asking price at the trade deadline was extremely high. That request was under previous management.

Getz already got five players back from the Braves when he traded left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer a couple of weeks ago to Atlanta. The Chicago White Sox got their potential Opening Day starting second baseman, Nicky Lopez, and starting pitcher Michael Soroka as a reclamation project along with some failed former high-regarded prospects.

Getz has to walk away with better quality if he makes another deal with the Braves rather than get quantity.

Cease had a down season in 2023 after nearly winning the AL Cy Young in 2022. He was still a 3.7 fWAR player and had a 3.72 FIP. He is under team control for two seasons and will be 28 next season.

It’s Getz’ best trade chip and the Braves might be the best trade partner if Chris wants to come away with good pitching. Atlanta has eight pitchers among their top 10 prospects. Two of them are ranked among MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects.

It would also be nice for the Chicago White Sox to get a long-term solution at second base and right field as those two positions have been a hole in the lineup for the better part of a decade.
