Former Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane has a new team.

Kane was a free agent this past summer but opted to fully recover from hip surgery before signing with a team for the 2023-2024 NHL regular season. The belief in the past couple of weeks has been that Kane was nearing a return with the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars, and Buffalo Sabres being among the teams that were considered the favorites.

There was also believed to be a mystery team involved in the Kane sweepstakes. On Tuesday, it would seem that the mystery team was revealed as Kane has signed with the Detroit Red Wings.

Former Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane is signing with the Detroit Red Wings as he makes his return from off-season hip surgery.

When the Blackhawks traded Kane to the New York Rangers last season, the team also confirmed that there would not be an interest in bringing the 9-time All-Star back when he reached free agency last summer. The Blackhawks were embarking in a new direction behind superstar rookie Connor Bedard and the belief was that Kane would look to sign with a Stanley Cup contender this season.

The Red Wings are a perfect fit for Kane considering they are a young time on the rise and currently sit in third place in the Atlantic division. Kane can serve as a veteran leader for the Red Wings as they push for the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.

Though considering the storied rivalry between the Blackhawks and Red Wings, it certainly will be an odd sight once Kane returns to the ice and dons a Detroit sweater.
