The Chicago Bulls will head to the TD Garden tonight to take on the league’s best Celtics in Boston.

Having lost seven of their last eight games with their defense nowhere to be found, I cannot imagine a worse time for the Bulls to be playing a road game against the current title favorites who have yet to lose a game in their house.

The sportsbooks agree as the Celtics are favored tonight by 13.5 points. Considering the lackluster performance on the court by this team, it is hard not to look beyond tonight’s tough matchup and see there is no end or destination in site for this organization, meaning something has to change soon.

The drama and rumblings of Zach Lavine being on the move grow louder and louder each and every day. The future of head coach Billy Donovan is getting questioned more and more with each loss stacking up. It is clear that the plan Executive VP Arturas Karnisovas had when he signed on has not come to fruition.

It’s hard to say the Bulls have made any stride forward since he came over in 2020. Yes, they are coming off two playoff appearances in a row. But 2022 resulted in an immediate exit at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks and 2023 resulted in them not making it out of the play-in tournament. That’s where the Bulls continue to live – no man’s land.

For the better part of a decade now, Chicago fans at the United Center have been staring at mediocrity at best. It is time for the Bulls to look into the distance, beyond the next two seasons, and see the path they are on is leading to nowhere and it’s the same as it has been quite frankly since the Derrick Rose era came to an end (really, the argument could be made that this goes back to the Jordan era ending).

The time to change course is right now. That means finding a Lavine trade partner. That means seeing what value other veteran assets like DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic might have on the market. Take this year to evaluate the young talent currently on the roster and determine if Billy Donovan is the right coach to lead the next contender. Collect as much draft capital and equity as possible to map out an actual path to a contending roster and organization.

Next. Bulls eliminated from in-season tournament. dark
