3 things to know about the Chicago Blackhawks loss to St. Louis
By Todd Welter
The Chicago Blackhawks failed to win a second straight game, again.
The St. Louis Blues won by two goals at the United Center and continue to dominate the rivalry over the last 11 matchups.
The Hawks have gotten pretty good at snapping losing streaks but when it comes to building winning streaks, well there is still plenty of work to do.
The Blackhawks have yet to put together two straight victories this season.
Here are three things you need to know about the Chicago Blackhawks’ latest defeat…
The Hawks had trouble stopping Pavel Buchnevich and Jake Neighbours
Neighbours had two goals while Buchnevich had a goal and two assists.
Neighbours was able to light the lamp in the first period when he was able to get past defenseman Kevin Korchiniski and then slid the puck past goalie Arvid Soderblom.
The Hawks outshot the Blues 34-28, but it was Neighbours and Buchnevich that made the difference.
The Chicago Blackhawks got behind early again.
Death, taxes, and the Hawks allowing the first goal seem like the only certainties in life. The Hawks were able to come back on Friday, but it was no dice in this matinee game.
Getting down early is something that is clearly bothering the team’s unofficial captain, Nick Foligno.
CHGO Blackhawks reporter and podcast host Mario Tirabassi has observed that while Foligno may not wear the captain’s C, he acts like a captain.
Getting down early is a sign of a young team trying to learn how to win in the NHL game. Having Foligno on the ice is going to help this franchise get to where it wants to go down the road.
Boris Katchouk continues to play well.
He has taken advantage of the ice time he has been getting with all the injuries to the forward group.
Katchouk got his first goal of the season in the third period.
Ryan Donato and he seem to have great chemistry. Katchouk has always had the talent. It has been the work ethic that has dogged him.
Hopefully, he will take advantage of this opportunity as he has the talent to be a valuable bottom-six piece on the next good Hawks team.
