For the second consecutive season, victories for the Chicago Bears are measured in their draft position as opposed to anything the team does on the field.

After Sunday’s schedule of games, there was a big change at the top of the projected 2024 NFL Draft order.

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Commanders on Sunday in an upset victory and pairing that with the Bears’ loss to the Detroit Lions, it was a successful day for teams rooting for the tank.

Here is the latest order of the top five selections in the 2024 NFL Draft according to Tankathon.

  1. Chicago Bears (Via Carolina Panthers, 1-9)
  2. Arizona Cardinals, 2-9
  3. New England Patriots, 2-8
  4. Chicago Bears, 3-8
  5. New York Giants, 3-8

The Bears moved up a spot with their own 2024 first-round pick as they entered the weekend projected to select fifth overall with the second of their first-round picks.

With the Giants’ victory over the Commanders on Sunday, there is now a clear rooting interest for the Bears regarding New York’s game against the Patriots this upcoming week. The Bears need the Patriots to defeat the Giants. If the Patriots defeat the Giants and the Bears lose to the Vikings next Monday, the Bears will once again be in a position where they will have two of the top three selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If the Bears do indeed have the top selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, it would seem that they will take USC’s Caleb Williams. Even with some concern about how Williams handles losses, he remains the most talented quarterback in the draft class and has a ceiling of being a generational talent at the NFL level. With the Bears in a position where they will need to be blown away by one of the quarterback prospects, it would seem Williams will be the reason they move on from Justin Fields in the off-season.
