The Chicago Bears looked ready to pull off an upset victory over the Detroit Lions.

Then they went and did what they have done during Matt Eberflus’ tenure as head coach–they lost.

Up by 12 with 4:15 left to go, the Lions struck quickly with two touchdowns to take a 29-26 lead. The Bears had the ball with just under 30 seconds to go, but Justin Fields was stripped by Aiden Hutchinson and Darnell Wright wisely kicked the ball out of the endzone for safety.

Game over!

The Chicago Bears blew another chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since the 2021 season.

The Bears have yet to accomplish even putting together the early makings of a winning streak under Eberflus. They have also not beaten a team with a winning record.

This is one of the few times the Bears won the turnover battle and lost.

What makes this defeat sting even more is the Bears dominated the Lions for almost 56 minutes. Instead of going for the throat, they settled for field goals, and that set up leaving Michigan with another L.

Here is whose stock is up after this defeat.

Justin Fields

You cannot blame Fields for this defeat. He played well after missing the last four games with a dislocated thumb in his throwing hand.

He completed 16 of 23 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown pass. He only took two sacks.

Fields also ran for 104 yards on 18 carries. There were designed runs and Justin had some nice throws. One of those throws was a beautiful touchdown pass to D.J. Moore.

Fields also found Moore seven times for 96 yards.

This final seven-game stretch is Justin’s last chance to make a case to be the long-term starting quarterback. The only box he failed to check was leading his team back to victory. He should have never been there in the first place.
