Justin Fields shines in stunning Chicago Bears loss
Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields made his return for the Bears on Sunday and through three and a half quarters of the game against the Detroit Lions, Fields was proving to be the difference maker that the team has missed throughout the past month.
The Bears had a 26-14 lead with 4 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and that is when the wheels fell off for the team. The Lions scored 17 unanswered points during the final four minutes of the game and for the Bears, it was a loss that rivaled their loss to the Denver Broncos earlier this season.
Let’s be clear, while Fields did fumble on the final offensive play of the game for the Bears, this loss is not on the Bears’ starting quarterback.
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields was excellent in the team’s game against the Detroit Lions but poor coaching led to a loss.
Fields was the best player on the field Sunday. Fields totaled 281 yards on the day including a touchdown pass to wide receiver D.J. Moore.
Before the fumble that Fields had to secure the victory for the Lions, the series prior highlighted why the Bears coaching staff has no faith in their quarterback. Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy called two consecutive running plays on first and second down before calling for a home run pass from Fields to rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott on third down. Scott slowed down on his route resulting in the ball being thrown just beyond his grasp.
The Bears’ game against the Lions was shaping up to be a statement game for Fields until the coaching staff took the game out of his hands. Because of this coaching staff, the Bears do not know how to win games and they should not be allowed to keep their jobs past today.
Fields did what was asked of him before the game and he was rewarded with a reminder that the Bears’ coaching staff has failed in their development of him as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
