Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz spoke with reporters on Friday after the team dealt relief pitcher Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.

One of the biggest takeaways from Getz’s comments on Friday was that White Sox designated hitter Eloy Jimenez could very well be traded before the end of the off-season.

The Chicago White Sox appear to be willing to move designated hitter Eloy Jimenez this off-season as teams are expressing interest.

In other words, it would seem that if the White Sox get a fair offer for Jimenez, chances are they will pull the deal on a trade. Considering the thin free-agent market for position players this winter, it would seem to be that there will be a team to target Jimenez in a potential trade.

There was a significant decline in Jimenez’s power numbers in 2023 with the White Sox. In 489 plate appearances with the White Sox, Jimenez totaled 18 home runs with a .169 ISO. Jimenez’s ISO in 2023 was nearly 60 points lower than his career mark of .212.

Even with the power decline, Jimenez was still graded as an above-average offensive player last season as he finished with a slash line of .272/.317/.441 with a wRC+ of 105.

Injuries have often prevented Jimenez from reaching his full potential at the Major League level and the 2023 season marked the first time that the White Sox outfielder/designated hitter played in over 100 games since his rookie season in 2019.

Given the power that Jimenez has displayed throughout his Major League career and the fact that he has the potential to be under team control for the next three seasons, it would seem that he would be an ideal target for teams in need of an offensive upgrade this off-season.

Part of the issue with the White Sox’s previous roster construction was the fact that the team was littered with players who were forced to play in the field when they belonged as designated hitters. Jimenez was one of those players and it would seem that as the White Sox embark on a rebuild, now is the time to trade their former prized prospect.
