White Sox Rumors: Team expressing interest in Dylan Cease

The Chicago White Sox kicked off their off-season on Thursday night with a trade of left-handed relief pitcher Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves for a package of players that likely were going to be non-tendered today by the Braves.

It would seem the trade of Bummer will ignite new general manager Chris Getz’s teardown of a roster that he admitted last week that he did not like.

The teardown should include a trade of starting pitcher Dylan Cease.

Cease is under team control for the next season and given the likelihood of both the White Sox not contending within the next two seasons and also not willing to sign their ace a long-term deal over $100MM, now would be the time to make a move.

Teams across Major League Baseball realize that the time is right for the White Sox to trade Cease and are expressing their interest according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Chicago White Sox are expected to enter a rebuild under general manager Chris Getz and teams are already calling on Dylan Cease.

The White Sox entertained the idea of moving Cease at the MLB Trade Deadline and there appeared to be momentum toward a deal with the Baltimore Orioles but talks did not advance in enough time.

The top of the starting pitching market in free agency is thin and the White Sox are in a position to get a haul of prospects for a starting pitcher who was runner-up in American League Cy Young voting during the 2022 season.

The White Sox trade with the Braves last night would suggest that the team is looking for quantity over quality as Getz looks to rebuild every level of the organization. A Cease trade would certainly further that progress.
