The Chicago Bears won ugly on Thursday Night Football.

There is not much to say about the Bears beating the Carolina Panthers who might be the worst team in the NFL.

It was a victory in a lost season. That does not mean the team has nothing to play for the rest of the season.

With seven games left, seven players need to use these final games to either…

  • Make a case to stay on the roster for next season.
  • Get a contract extension.
  • Have an expanded role next year.
  • Avoid an upgrade being brought in during the offseason.
  • Improve their trade stock.

Justin Fields

Fields expects to return next Sunday against the Detroit Lions after missing the last four games with a thumb injury.

Backup Tyson Bagent went 2-2 in his absence. His ability to operate in the pocket, get the ball out quickly, and not take sacks, Justin’s three biggest weaknesses, have led to a portion of the fanbase being out on Fields.

In addition, it seems like some coaches want to move on from Fields, namely offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

Bagent’s lack of arm strength limits what he can do in the NFL. Fields still has the potential to be a special player in this league.

All his talent still does not excuse him for having an inconsistent season. Describing it as inconsistent is putting it nicely.

Fields has played 22 quarters this season and has looked great in only seven of them. In those seven quarters, he showed he can be a dynamic passer so that is why he gets these final seven games to prove he can still be the franchise quarterback.
