The Chicago Cubs are already looking like the early favorites to be the off-season winners this year. At this point in time, all they have done is make a manager change.

It also happens to be as good of a manager change as they could have possibly made right now. This team needed an upgrade over David Ross and they got one with Craig Counsell.

The Cubs want to be a top-shelf team and they spent at the top of the shelf with Counsell. Now, they have to work on their roster as they look to take some big steps this year.

One player that they are rumored to be looking at is Shohei Ohtani. Yes, that’s right. The Chicago Cubs are trying to get the most talented baseball player ever to come and play for them.

The Chicago Cubs are trying to sign Shohei Ohtani this off-season.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cubs are going to be amongst the most aggressive in their pursuit of Ohtani. He is going to be offered a lot of money from a lot of different teams so the Cubs just have to convince him to make it them.

If the Cubs did that, they would be doing something so monumental. For one, he would probably become the new highest-paid player of all time. That would mean they handed out the most money ever to both a player and manager in the same off-season.

That would be money well spent for ownership though as they would have an even better chance to win. That playoff revenue would be incredible for them. They would also become one of the biggest global stories because of the Ohtani effect.

A move like this would shock the baseball world which is exactly why the Cubs should do it. A player that can be a top-five-hitter and a top-ten pitcher at the same time has never come around before and the Cubs have him right there for the taking.

It is a lot of money to consider giving to an athlete but he deserves it. If he continues to play well after his contract is signed, there will be arguments that he is underpaid. Either way, it is good to hear that the Cubs are actively pursuing him as they should be.
