The Chicago Cubs had a great season in 2023. It started bumpy but they figured it out by the halfway point in the season. By the end, they had a legitimate chance to win the division or a Wild Card spot.

Eventually, however, they came up just short. There are a couple of reasons for that but it left a bad taste in their mouth. It is also making them hungry for the 2024 season. With the right moves in place, the Chicago Cubs could turn into a powerhouse.

There have already been some roster decisions made but there is still a lot of work to be done in that department. Again, if they play their cards right, they could be a very good team in 2024 with heavy expectations.

On Monday, some shocking news started to break around the baseball world. The Cubs are making a move that nobody expected them to make. A manager change is on deck for them as they begin their off-season.

The Chicago Cubs made a brand new manager hire on Monday afternoon.

Craig Counsell has been looking for a new job all off-season. There have been tons of reports out there as lots of teams wanted to add him as their manager. The team he chose, however, is extremely shocking.

Yes, he is going to replace David Ross as the manager of the Chicago Cubs. This is a stunning move for the Cubs as they look to take their team forward. It is odd that they never really let David Ross go but they feel that they are making an upgrade.

Counsell is going to be the highest-paid manager in the history of the game. He had a lot of really good years with the rival Milwaukee Brewers. They didn’t get over the hump and win the World Series but they came close to an NL pennant under Counsell. They were competitive in pretty much every year that he was in charge.

Now, it is on Counsell to take the mistakes that Ross made and correct them. He is being paid well to do this new job so the pressure is on. With this move, you can also expect some big roster moves to be made so that Counsell has the best chance to succeed. It is a big off-season already.
