The Chicago Bears could turn this into a bigger trade if they wanted to.

The Chicago Bears could turn this into a little bit of a bigger trade with the Kansas City Chiefs if both sides were willing. Kansas City needs help with their receiving core. Unless it’s Travis Kelce, a tight end that’s getting older, they don’t have much.

Adding Mooney would really help. Maybe they would even take a chance on Velus Jones Jr. at this stage of the season. This is a player that hasn’t done well with Chicago and needs a fresh chance. Well, with Mahomes throwing the ball, he might find more success developing.

It also might not work out for Velus but it is a low risk for the Chiefs and they’d still be getting Mooney who is a proven NFL player. There really isn’t much of a risk factor with a trade like this because Kansas City should just be all in on winning the Super Bowl.

A trade like this won’t help the Bears draft into being a Super Bowl contender but every draft pick is like a lottery ticket. The more tickets you have, the better your chance to win. There is no reason to keep people that aren’t in your future.

The Bears are done. They can still help the Chiefs by sending them a quality receiver. They’d be helping themselves too because building toward the future is important. Hopefully, the trade deadline sees them be better on the other side of it.
