The Chicago Cubs should absolutely be going for Juan Soto
The Chicago Cubs were a good team by the end of 2023. People will only remember them chocking their playoff spot away by the final day of the season but that isn’t the only thing that happened to them.
They were well out of a playoff spot on the 4th of July and they came all the way back after looking like their season was already over. No matter how you slice it, the Cubs were ahead of schedule in 2023 and the future is very bright.
Jed Hoyer and his staff are going to do what they can to improve their roster as best as they can this off-season. The Cubs have the financial might to do something big but we’ll have to see how crazy they will go with it. History says it won’t be too wild.
The Chicago Cubs should really consider Juan Soto who is likely going to be traded this off-season. He started his career with the Washington Nationals and has since been traded to the San Diego Padres. No matter where he goes, he is an elite player.
The Chicago Cubs could really use a superstar like Juan Soto starting in 2024.
Not only is he elite, but he is also a very experienced player. He has made many deep runs in the playoffs and that includes winning the World Series with the Nationals in 2019.
Soto, in addition to being a World Series champion, is a three-time all-star, three-time Silver Slugger, has a batting title and has won the Home Run Derby. At 25 years old, he has a 28.7 career WAR which has him on a legit Hall of Fame trajectory.
Right now, Soto is amongst the best players in the league. If he came to the Chicago Cubs, he’d automatically be their best player and it isn’t close. Everyone else around him would make this team super dangerous. They have a farm system good enough to make this happen.
It won’t be long after trading for him but again, the Cubs have the financial ability to do something like that. He’d transform the franchise as soon as he arrived. They’d go from a playoff hopeful to a World Series contender right away.
It sounds like this is something that could actually happen. Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami has reported that the Cubs will have an interest in him. If that is the case, it must be done.
