Options loom for Chicago Bears as QB position nears reset
By Todd Welter
Texas’ Quinn Ewers
Texas was off last week so Ewers did not have a chance to show off his electric arm.
Early mocks vary with him going as high as the fifth pick in the first round to slipping to the second round.
The Longhorns will take on Houston this Saturday hoping to rebound after losing to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry.
Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders
Sanders has electrified this season for the Colorado Buffaloes. Playing for his dad, Deion Sanders, Shedeur has helped turn the program around.
He led Colorado to a 29-0 halftime lead over Stanford only to watch the Cardinal storm back to win in double-overtime.
Sanders threw for 400 yards, five touchdowns, and was picked off once.
He will be a popular name if he decides to declare for the draft. Colorado is on bye this week.
LSU’s Jayden Daniels
Daniels is another fringe first-round quarterback talent. Daniels lit up Auburn for 325 yards passing and three touchdowns to go along with an interception. He also ran for 93 yards.
He is a dual threat with good size who will enter the NFL with a ton of college reps.
Daniels will get another chance to shine when LSU hosts Army at home on Saturday.
Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon’s Bo Nix
These two range from being considered first-round prospects to later in the draft talents. Both are extremely talented. Nix has played well in the SEC and in the PAC-12.
Pennix Jr. got the better of Nix when these two squared off last Saturday.
Pennix Jr. threw for three touchdowns and 302 yards in Washington’s victory over Oregon. Nix had better-passing yards with 337 yards, but he had just two touchdown passes.
Oregon hosts Washington State while Washington hosts Arizona State.
