Chicago White Sox Rumors: Kim Ng would be a major front office hire
There was an argument to be made that Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng should win the Executive of the Year award for Major League Baseball after constructing a roster that led the Marlins to the post-season for the first time since 2020.
Among the moves that Ng made was a trade with the Chicago White Sox at the Major League Baseball trade deadline that saw the Marlins acquire White Sox slugger Jake Burger.
For as much success as the Ng had this past season with the Marlins, the belief was that the team was well on their way to a streamline of success. That is why the Major League Baseball industry was shocked on Monday to hear that Ng declined her mutual option in her contract and would not be returning to the Marlins’ front office.
Ng’s decision not to return to the Marlins’ front office stems from ownership wanting to add a president of baseball operations this off-season and that would have been a role that Ng reported to. In other words, a demotion.
Former Miami Marlins general manager Kim Ng would be an excellent addition to the Chicago White Sox’s front office with general manager Chris Getz.
It would seem that Ng will now seek a similar type of role, president of baseball operations, and that could lead to her return to the White Sox organization. The White Sox were the team mentioned in The Athletic’s covering of her departure from the Marlins.
"It remains to be seen if other organizations will make front office moves or if Ng would be considered for a president role, with some rumblings in the industry that perhaps the Chicago White Sox — with whom Ng began her career in 1990 and served as an assistant director of baseball operations from 1995-96 — would be interested in her overseeing newly promoted general manager Chris Getz.-The Athletic"
If Ng does have an interest in returning to the White Sox organization, that is a call that the team needs to make.
With a limited budget in a small market, Ng was able to complete trades that put the Marlins in a position to contend this season. That is the exact type of situation that she would be overseeing with the White Sox.
