2. Handling of assets

Kyle Davidson needs to make sure that the Blackhawks handle assets right.

The Chicago Blackhawks were sellers at the deadline last year and it worked out well for them. This year, they might even have more assets that can help winning teams take a chance at the Stanley Cup.

The aforementioned Corey Perry and Nick Foligno may be worth something at the deadline. By that point, Bedard will be well into his rookie year and won’t need them as much. Getting draft picks for veterans on one-year deals is a great way to continue the rebuild.

There might even be a few out-of-the-box type trades they can make for guys who aren’t on expiring deals. Good players like Andreas Athanasiou and Connor Murphy come to mind.

We saw what a trade like the Brandon Hagel deal can do for this franchise if they just handle it the right way. Now, Davidson would love to make other good deals for these players so the future becomes even brighter.

It is also possible that the Blackhawks become a place for short-term salary cap dumps. That would be a good way to gain more draft picks and possibly even a good prospect or two. The Hawks can afford it for right now so why not? As long as Davidson is there, you can expect a clever move like this.
