Blackhawks: Connor Bedard may actually save Chicago sports

The Chicago Blackhawks are lucky to have Connor Bedard. Every other team in the NHL would love to have him coming in right now but the Hawks were the lucky lottery winner.

Of course, he isn’t going to turn them into a Stanley Cup contender right away. It is going to take plenty of time for them to get things right after rebuilding for the last handful of years.

However, no team is providing more hope right now than the Hawks thanks to Bedard. This is a generational type of prospect that doesn’t come around often and Chicago is going to be his home for the best years of his career.

Bedard may literally save Chicago sports. For one, their roommate in the Chicago Bulls are incredibly mediocre. They could make the play-in game again or miss the playoffs entirely but they have no more expectations as of right now.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Connor Bedard must save this sports town.

In the baseball world, things are really bad for Chicago. The Chicago White Sox are one of the four worst teams in the league. They started the season poorly and things never got better. This came in one of their “championship window” years so it is clear that they are a joke.

On the North Side, the Chicago Cubs had a good season but they fell apart badly in September. They seemed like a lock for the playoffs when the month started but have done a lot more losing lately than winning. They will likely be eliminated from postseason contention this weekend.

As for the Chicago Bears, they are the worst of the bunch. It is close between them and the White Sox but the fact that the Bears are more of a national story makes it worse. It is also extra bad because it is clear that Justin Fields is not the guy. They have big problems over there and it may be a long time (again) before they are good.

This town needs Bedard. Hockey isn’t the number one sport but it can be. It was close to being the number-one sport from 2009 to 2017. It could be that way again with Connor Bedard leading the way. He is so good and so fun to watch. Sports fans in this town are going to be saved by him.

Give them the benefit of the doubt in terms of wins and losses at first. They are still young and need to develop more of their prospects before we can be thinking about the playoffs. For now, just enjoy Bedard. This is a championship talent to build around but there is more building to be done. Chicago is a hockey town.
