The Chicago Cubs are in big trouble heading into this huge weekend
The Chicago Cubs are in big trouble right now. They were just swept by the Atlanta Braves with less than a week to go in the regular season. That is not what they wanted to do right as they are trying to clinch a playoff spot.
The Braves are the best team in baseball so they are clearly hard to beat but the Cubs had multiple chances to win some games in this series. They blew a few different opportunities to get it done and it just wasn’t able to happen.
Now, they enter the Friday night slate of games trailing the Miami Marlins for that final Wild Card spot. They have their backs against the wall now and need to forget what happened in Atlanta as they head to Wisconsin for one last regular season series.
Yes, they are going to take on the NL Central Division champion Milwaukee Brewers to end the season. You’d think that the Brewers might take it easy so they are fresh for the playoffs but there is no doubt that they want to eliminate the Cubs for good this season. They are going to bring it.
The Chicago Cubs have to dominate this weekend to even have a chance.
The Cubs are in trouble. There is no doubt about that. The Pittsburgh Pirates are going to be the opponent for the Miami Marlins this weekend as the fish are going to try and finish the job. However, the Cubs just have to worry about this series that they can control one game at a time.
As mentioned before, it all starts on Friday night. Kyle Hendricks is going to be on the mound against Colin Rea of the Brewers. The Cubs are going to need Kyle to have a good long outing if they want to take this game. The bullpen just can’t be trusted right now.
They also need their offense to take advantage of Rea. They have proven that they can score a ton of runs a lot this season and this is a great time for them to show it again.
Guys like Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, and Dansby Swanson must show everyone that they want to make the playoffs but coming up big here. If they don’t, they might be on the outside looking in.
Manager David Ross has taken his criticisms this season despite the team being awesome at times. All of the negativity can be forgotten if they win this series and go to the playoffs. It should be a pleasure to watch.
